Kerr PTA and Kerr Elementary are excited to partner for our annual Spelling Bee on Tuesday, December 3rd from 6-7:30pm. As an officially enrolled school with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the Kerr Spelling Bee is an exciting tradition and a wonderful opportunity for our student spellers to compete on the local and possibly national level.

Interested in having your student participate? Great! Any Kerr student in Kindergarten-Sixth grade may try out for the Kerr Spelling Bee. The first step is to register/enroll your student and review the steps listed below for our Kerr Speller Journey.

Step 1 Enroll your student in the Kerr Spelling Bee on the Kerr PTA website. Please provide your student’s name (first and last), grade and teacher. Registration will close on Sunday, November 10th at 5pm. You will receive an email with grade-level word study lists included in your registration confirmation email.

Step 2 Enrolled students will participate in their corresponding grade-level Spelling Bee Written Test. The Spelling Bee Written Test will be held on Tuesday, November 12th during class (your student will be removed from class in the morning to take the test with their grade-level peers). This is a closed spelling bee for registered students and spelling officials only.

Any students that miss the written test due to an excused absence can take the make-up written test on Thursday, November 14th.

Step 3 The top two spellers from each grade-level Spelling Bee Written Test will be invited to compete at the oral Kerr Spelling Bee on Tuesday, December 3rd from 6-7:30pm. We welcome and encourage families and friends to attend this exciting event where our top Kerr Spellers compete for the titles of Kerr Junior Spelling Bee Winner (K-2) and Kerr Spelling Bee Winner (3-6).

Step 4 The winner from the Kerr Spelling Bee (3-6) will advance to the District Spelling Bee in January. District winners will be invited to compete at the Regional Bee and winners from Regional Bee will then move on to National Spelling Bee!

Registration for the Kerr Spelling Bee will close on Sunday, November 10th at 5pm. Word study guides will be included in your registration confirmation email. Please register each student separately.
