WATCH D.O.G.S.
What are the goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program?
- To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
- To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are WatchDOGS?
As a Hero of the Hallways, WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer for at least one day each school year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.
How does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?
Fathers and father figures can sign up to volunteer for the program by clicking the link HERE. If you have questions please contact Kerr's school counselor, Ms. Wright. She oversees the program and partners with the school’s administration to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for WatchDOGS to provide assistance at the school.
What do WatchDOGS do while they are at school?
On the day of their participation at Kerr, WatchDOGS arrive by 7:30 a.m. and proceed to the reception desk at the front of the school where they are given a customized schedule for the day. During the day, WatchDOGS perform a variety of tasks, including monitoring the school entrances, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, and helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on various types of schoolwork. WatchDOGS also perform many other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. Many school principals have reported that the mere presence of a WatchDOG dramatically reduces reports of bullying.
Will you really spend a full day at school?
Yes! WATCH D.O.G.S. has a great track record of bringing fathers and father figures to school for the whole day. While volunteering a day is a sacrifice, you can be sure that being a Hero of the Hallway more than makes up for it. In fact, in many cases, WatchDOGS volunteer more because they had an incredible experience and because it gives them a greater appreciation for what teachers are doing to educate their children.
