Academic Programs

Each year, when you buy a PTA membership with Kerr PTA, you help us provide educational programs and fun family events that benefit the students of James D Kerr Elementary!  These are a few of the academic programs we've provided.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is a project-based learning program that blends STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education with arts. Throughout the program, students use critical & creative thinking, team building, problem solving, risk taking, and project management skills to build their self-confidence. If you are interested in forming a DI team, contact us!

Math Club

Math Club will enter its third year as a Kerr PTA-sponsored, volunteer led program. For 2018-2019, Kerr Elementary Math Club finished in the top 10% of ALL teams who competed in Division E of MOEMS, Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools! More than 3,550 teams across the United States participated in Division E of MOEMS 2018-2019 Competition. More information will be available at the start of the school year. Contact us to CHAIR this program.

National Spelling Bee

The Kerr Comet Spelling Bee is open to students K-6 through a combination of written tests and stand-up Spelling Bee. For the third year, Kerr PTA is sponsoring the Scripps National Spelling Bee at our school--one of the nation's oldest and most iconic competitions. Students may progress from classroom to cafeteria, from auditorium to civic center, delighting friends, family, sponsors and fans just as million of other students have done before them!

High Touch High Tech Hands-on science experience! Our students will be engaging in exciting science projects that encourage them to explore the many wonders of science!
