Hello, amazing Kerr families!  

We have had an incredible start to the year.  We announced house colors last Friday and students are earning points for going "above and beyond".  What I love about this theme is that "above and beyond" is unique to each child and their own path to becoming the best they can be.  I am amazed at the polite manners and the number of students that take time to ask how I am doing each morning.  So kind!

A few reminders/announcements:

*Arrival in the morning: Beginning Monday, August 28, 2023, the side parking lot will be closed for parents to park in.  Any car entering will have to use the car lane.  Parents will also need to stay in the "hug and go" area or near the crosswalk and allow their child to walk on their own across the crosswalk.  We truly appreciate your support in this change as it allows us to ensure safety and efficiency for morning arrivals. 

*It's time to order t-shirts in your child's house color.  Order forms went home in student folders this week . Don't worry about picking the appropriate t-shirt color (We will do that for you!). During school rallies, students will sit with their "house color" and we will celebrate the points earned by each house.  There will be team building, encouragement, and celebrations to be had and we want every student to be included in the FUN!  T-shirt forms should be returned to your child's homeroom teacher and payment for shirts should be made on SchoolPay (no checks, please). T-shirt costs will also allow this to be a fundraiser for our school as we intend to use the money from shirt sales to continue to provide an awesome school experience for your child. MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

Looking to make a difference in our school community? Kerr PTA is looking for a person to serve as our Community Relations Chair. Duties of this role include:

-Serve as relationship manager for all corporate programs and local business fundraisers (spirit nights, etc)

-Attend PTA board meetings (4 per year).

-Work to supply students in need with clothes, foods, etc via donations and direct purchases.

Information from our District:

This year, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 114, which was subsequently signed into law by Governor Abbott. This law mandates that any student caught with a vape on school premises MUST be placed into a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP). We want all students and parents to know that possession of a vape on campus or at a school event will now lead to a DAEP placement, which could impact a student's participation in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. This applies to any vape, whether it contains nicotine, THC, or any other substance.

Vapes and e-cigarettes have become easy to access over the years, with some students able to purchase them online or in convenience stores. We encourage all parents to discuss with their children the potential consequences of possessing a vape on school grounds. Thank you for your partnership in this effort!
